Intelligence in Orbit
Space Hardware & Sensor Systems Engineer
About Kintaro Space Systems
We are building intelligent spacecraft that can coordinate autonomously and process observations onboard. Our first launch target is December 2028.
About the role
You will design, select, integrate and test spacecraft hardware and sensor systems, progressing from models and bench experiments towards flight hardware.
What you will do
- Select and compare sensors and small-satellite components for performance, interfaces, power, mass, cost and availability.
- Build simple sensor models and bench experiments; calibrate sensors, capture data and quantify noise and measurement uncertainty.
- Define hardware and payload interfaces; integrate and test components against electrical, pointing and thermal constraints, identifying questions needing specialist input.
- Engage suppliers and university teams, arrange technical demonstrations and document useful contacts and findings.
- Represent hardware behaviour in the digital twin with mission and software colleagues; use AI coding tools and validate results against measurements.
About you
- A recent degree in electronic/electrical engineering, aerospace, mechatronics, physics or a related field from a leading university.
- Foundations in electronics, signals and measurement physics, with a strong interest in spacecraft systems.
- Evidence of building or testing a sensor, embedded system or instrument; coursework and student projects count.
- Practical Python or MATLAB, and confidence reading schematics and datasheets.
Useful exposure (optional): CubeSat teams, optical/thermal/RF sensors, embedded C/C++, microcontrollers, laboratory instruments or CAD.
Show us what you have built. Share your CV, a project or research example and earliest availability. Explain your contribution and what you learned. No prior full-time experience is required.
